Many Paws Make Light Work
Whether you have a few hours, an open weekend, or want to be deeply involved, there are so many ways to make a meaningful difference at Miri’s Haven.
Our rescue runs on volunteers. From helping with transport, events, vet visits, and day-to-day care, every single role helps us say “yes” to more senior dogs in need.
There’s no minimum time commitment required. Some volunteers help a few times a year, some a few times a month, and others every week. You always choose when and how you’d like to contribute.
No matter how you choose to help, you’ll become part of an incredibly welcoming, dedicated, and supportive community of people who care deeply about senior dogs — and who genuinely enjoy showing up for each other.
Ways to Volunteer
You Don’t Need Experience to Help
Many of our volunteers start with no rescue experience at all.
Whether you want to be deeply involved or simply help with an occasional transport or event, there’s a place for you here. We’ll help you find volunteer opportunities that fit your comfort level, schedule, and interests.
Most importantly, you’ll become part of a community that celebrates every tiny victory — from successful vet visits to senior dogs discovering cozy blankets, snacks, and sunshine for the first time.
Helping transport dogs from shelters, owner surrenders, or between foster homes allows us to say yes to more dogs in need.
Even driving one leg of a dog’s journey can make an enormous difference. Many of our transports are coordinated through volunteers working together to safely move dogs across the region.
We love having as many helping hands as possible at adoption events, fundraisers, and community events.
Volunteers help with:

Greeting visitors and talking with them about our dogs, our rescue, and the work we do

Answering questions about how to adopt, foster, or volunteer

Helping set up and break down
The more the merrier — and these events are often some of the most fun ways to get involved.

We often need volunteers to stop by headquarters to help with meals, potty breaks, and cleanup, and give the dogs some extra snuggles and attention — especially during busy times when our Director could use an extra set of hands.
These visits are a great way for volunteers to get to know our dogs. Every dog we take in passes through headquarters during intake before heading to their foster home, so there’s always a revolving cast of characters and you never know who you’ll meet.
If you enjoy photography or social media, headquarters visits are a great opportunity to capture photos and videos that help us showcase dogs on social media and create their adoption bios and profiles.
Getting dogs to and from veterinary appointments is one of the biggest ways volunteers help us provide timely medical care.
Some appointments are simple drop-offs and pickups, while others require a volunteer to stay with the dog during the visit. Having a calm, caring person there can make a huge difference for nervous senior dogs.
Not every volunteer role involves directly handling dogs — and some of our most impactful volunteer work happens behind the scenes.
We’re always looking for organized, creative, and thoughtful people who want to help our rescue run more smoothly, support our volunteers and adopters, and help us grow our impact. Operational volunteer opportunities may include:

Developing systems, processes, and resources that help the rescue operate more efficiently and effectively
Whether your background is in project management, operations, communications, fundraising, marketing, events, customer support, tech, or simply being incredibly organized and passionate, there are so many ways to make a meaningful impact behind the scenes.
