How long does the adoption process usually take?

It varies depending on the dog, application volume, foster availability, and scheduling. We do our best to move applications through the process as quickly as possible while still ensuring thoughtful matches.

Can I adopt if I live outside the DC, MD, or VA area?

Accepted Answer

Yes! Many of our dogs have found wonderful homes across the US. Our only requirement is that the adopter and other members of their household (including any dogs) are able to travel to meet the dog and safely transport them home.

Can I adopt if I work outside the home?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. Many adopters work outside the home. We simply want to ensure that the dog’s needs, schedule, and energy level are compatible with your lifestyle.

Do you adopt to first-time dog owners?

Yes! Some dogs are wonderful fits for first-time adopters, while others may require more experience. We focus on finding the right fit for each dog rather than applying rigid rules.

What if I’ve never had a senior dog before?

That’s completely okay. Many of our adopters are first-time senior dog owners. While senior dogs sometimes come with medical needs or mobility changes, they are also often incredibly loving, adaptable, funny, and deeply rewarding companions. We’re always happy to help guide adopters toward dogs that may be a good fit for their experience level and lifestyle.

What if I don’t have a fenced yard?

Many of our dogs are leash-trained and don't require fenced yards. It depends entirely on the individual dog and their needs.

What medical care do dogs receive before adoption?

Accepted Answer

All dogs in our care receive extensive veterinary care before adoption. Depending on the dog’s age, condition, and medical needs, this may include vaccines, spay/neuter, diagnostics, dental care, medications, treatment for underlying medical conditions, and surgeries or other medical procedures when needed.

Because our dogs are often seniors with medical needs, consistent veterinary care and preventative care are extremely important to us.

Do you do international adoptions?

Unfortunately, we're not able to adopt dogs to homes outside of the US at this time.
